Market News & Headlines >> Biodiesel Output Up in March

U.S. biodiesel production rose 13% in March to 119 million gallons from 105 million gallons a month earlier, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in a report on Tuesday.

March biodiesel production was up 21.4% from the year-earlier level of 98 million gallons. Production came from 94 plants, with an annual production capacity of 2.1 billion gallons.

Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock, with 464 million pounds used in March, about 55% of the total. That usage was up 17.5% from February, when 395 million pounds of soyoil was used in biodiesel production.

Despite the rise in production, U.S. biodiesel stocks at the end of March were 55 million gallons down from 61 million a month earlier.
