U.S. biodiesel production rose 10.8% in May to 133 million gallons from 120 million gallons a month earlier, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in a report on Friday. 

The monthly production total was the second highest in EIA records going back to 2009, behind December 2013 when production reached 135 million gallons. 

There were a total of 969 million pounds of feedstocks used to produce biodiesel in May. Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock, with 527 million pounds used in May, or about 54% of the total. May soyoil usage for biodiesel production was up 27% from April usage of 415 million pounds. 

Producer sales of biodiesel during May 2016 included 65 million gallons sold as B100 (100% biodiesel) and an additional 68 million gallons of B100 sold in biodiesel blends with diesel fuel derived from petroleum.
