China’s monthly soybean imports hit a new record-high in December of 8.53 million metric tons, according to data released by that country’s customs administration on Tuesday.

The December imports were up 41.5% from November imports of 6.03 million tons and up 15.3% from December, 2013 imports of 7.40 million tons. China’s calendar year 2014 soybean imports also hit a record high of 71.4 million tons, up 12.7% from 2013.

The December soybean imports were well above a recent forecast of 7.30 million tons from China’s Commerce Ministry (MOC). The MOC has forecast that January imports will drop off to 4.51 million metric tons.
