U.S. biodiesel production for January was down 2.8% from a month earlier, but up sharply from January 2015, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported on Monday.

In its Monthly Biodiesel Production Report, EIA put January output of biodiesel (B100) at 105 million gallons, down from about 108 million in December, but up 43.8% from January 2015 output of 73 million gallons.

Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock or about 52.1% of the total, down from 53.3% in December and 56.1% in January 2015. January soyoil use of 392 million pounds was down 10.1% from December use of 436 million pounds, but up 28.1% from January 2015 use of 306 million.
