Market News & Headlines >> Ukraine's 2022 Grain Harvest Seen Down Nearly 55%

Ukraine’s total grain harvest is likely to fall 54.6% in 2022 compared with a year earlier due to a drop in planted area caused by Russia’s invasion of the country, Ukraine-based analyst APK-Inform forecast on Wednesday.

The firm forecast total 2022 grain production at 38.9 million metric tons, forecasting wheat production at 14.9 million tons, down 53.7% from last year and corn production at 18.5 million tons down 55.8% from this year’s record large crop.

As a result of the lower production, Ukraine’s 2022/23 wheat exports will drop sharply to 10 million metric tons and its 2022/23 corn exports will fall to 18.5 million tons, APK Inform estimated. USDA most recently estimated Ukraine’s 2021/22 wheat exports at 20.0 million tons and its 2021/22 corn exports at 27.5 million tons.
