The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to propose to increase the amount of renewable fuels that oil refiners must blend into their fuel mix for 2023, 2024 and 2025, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters News Service on Wednesday.

The EPA proposal is expected to be announced by the end of this week and will include biofuel blending mandates of 20.82 billion gallons for 2023, 21.87 billion gallons for 2024 and 22.68 billion gallons for 2025, sources said.

The EPA blending proposal will include mandates of 15.0 billion gallons of conventional biofuels for 2023 and 15.25 billion for 2024 and 2025, the sources told Reuters.  In addition, mandates for advanced biofuels will be proposed at 5.82 billion gallons for 2023, 6.62 billion gallons for 2024 and 7.43 billion for 2025, the sources said.

Earlier this year, the EPA set total biofuel blending mandates for 2022 at 20.63 billion gallons and retroactive volume mandates for 2021 at 18.84 billion gallons and for 2020 at 17.13 billion gallons.
